Sibiu is a city in Transylvania the central region of Romania known especially for the Germanic architecture of the old city and the legacy of the 12th century Saxon colonists. Remnants of the walls and medieval towers around the city are still visible including the 13th-century Council Tower.

Oskar Pastior was a German born in Sibiu Romania in 1927. A was deported in January 1945 to the Soviet Union for forced labor along with many other German citizens from Eastern Europe.
